Further details from Dave Vagi: Tom died from Arteriolosclerosis. Tom's wife, Liz, said it was probably a massive heart attack that was aided by artery blockage. He was at a gym working out. It is in a strip mall and he was the only one there at the time. The police reviewed the video surveillance tapes and he was working on a couple machines then went to another, sat down, rubbed his forehead and slumped over. Another patron entered the gym about 6 minutes later and called 911, went outside and summoned some paramedics that were in a restaurant in that strip mall. The 911 responders came and took over, but he apparently died in transit. Liz is also a nurse. They both worked at the same hospital.

Tom had hip replacement surgery in January and had been given a clean bill of health from his doctor. He had been doing well with recovery and rehab.
